Destination Wedding on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line - Day 1 Pre-Cruise

Today I flew to Fort Lauderdale for a destination wedding on the Jewel of the Seas by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. I flew out of Boston and was fascinated by the beautiful sites on the clear blue sunny day. I caught a view of Wickford that I’ve never seen before. I grew up in Wickford and spent many days wandering around the docks playing. I really miss Wickford. It’s a great place to relax and explore. It’s filled with many old homes that are in great condition. I vividly remember my summers at the art festival selling lemonade as a young child. Here’s the view that I saw from my flight from Boston.

and a shot of Fort Lauderdale’s coastline as we approached the airport.

I arrived in Fort Lauderdale a day early to ensure a smooth arrival and to accommodate the additional gear arriving on time. I stayed at the Fort Lauderdale Grand Hotel which is undergoing a major 65 million dollar renovation. The hotel is very posh and has a great location near the convention center and the Port Everglades ship departures.

Once I arrived, I called Holly and Josh and let them know I arrived safely. I then proceeded to examine my gear and verify that everything made the trip without any problems. Everything checked out so, I grabbed a camera and proceeded to explore. I stumbled upon an absolutely huge and beautiful sailing ship. It’s called the Meteor and it’s a double masted 170 foot yacht that was absolutely breathe taking. Here’s some of the details that caught my eye.

I continued exploring the area around the hotel and stumbled upon a car auction. I was immediately thrilled. I payed my entrance fee and walked into a plathora of fine vintage automobiles. I was in heaven. I watched the bidding, drank some beers, wandered around, chatted with a fascinating slice of America and enjoyed every second of the experience. Here’s some of the images that captivated me.

This is a 66 AC Cobra 427 that sold for $710,000. Simply stunning!

The Zakim Bridge - A new angle

I was on the way to test drive the Smart Car in Somerville and I saw the Zakim bridge from a new angle. This time we were driving along side the bridge. The sun was hitting the bridge almost like a spot light. I grabbed a few frames and applied my version of reality in PS. I think I will work on a version in the future that omits all the interfering lines from the utility stuff. The lines of the bridge are captivating and the contrast in the sky really grabs me. I’m looking forward to my next opportunity to capture this wonderful landmark.

The Smart Car - ForTwo Passion Cabriolet. Pure joy!

A few years ago I heard about this little car called the Smart Car ForTwo. There was notions of it making to the US but, I said someday if they do, I’ve got to have one! Fast forward several years and my opportunity came. The Smart Car arrival to the US was announced last year and $99 reservations where given out at their site (www.smartusa.com). The first dealerships were announced last month through their site. Two dealerships opened in Massachusetts. Both are owned by Herb Chambers. One is in Somerville and the second one is in Lynnfield. I called the dealership the instant I found out the dealers were open to arrange a test drive. I arrived and was astounded by these tiny little cars. A few minutes later I was beaming with pleasure as I was driving down the road in this hip little fun car. It was amazingly roomy for a small car and really fun to drive. When I got back to the dealer I asked what the delivery times are looking like? They told me 12 to 18 months. You should put a reservation in today if you’d like to get one. That was pretty disappointing to hear but, I said Jeff, if it was meant to be it will happen. So, I researched who had the cars and found out that some of the people who had reservations from a year ago choose not to pickup their cars. These were being called orphans. The word on the internet was that you could call the dealerships and ask to be put on the “Orphan list”

I called several of the local dealers to be put on the list and I checked their sites daily for special offers. This is where I originally found one of the dealers advertising an orphan for sale. I also called the dealerships often to ask if any orphans were available. Well, this weekend I found my opportunity at the Warwick Smart Center in Rhode Island. I woke up Saturday morning and had an inkling to call them. I asked if they had an orphan and heard the most wonderful reply in the world…. Yes! we do. Really? Which one? A white Passion Cabriolet with a black Tridion cell. It has the Comfort Package, fog lights, alarm, and instrument cluster for the dash. I asked if they would take a deposit over the phone but, was told that I would need to come down in person. Needless to say, I drove rather briskly down to RI to see if I could make this happen. While driving down to the dealership they called to ask if I was on my way? I replied, Yes! I should be down there in about 30 minutes. Why? They told me they had some customers that were interested in purchasing MY car but, since I called first they would hold it for me if I was serious about purchasing the Passion Cabriolet. I replied, I will be there shortly and I appreciated the call.

I arrived at the dealer ship to find my little white Cabrio. I test drove the car with my daughter, Allison. She was giddy with excitement. Her enthusiasm only increased my excitement. We drove the car for about 10 miles and were questioned, pointed at, gawked at at every stop light and intersection. The test drive only reaffirmed my love for the Smart Passion Cabriolet. Once I got back to the dealership I worked with Susan Lemoi to finalize the deal. Susan was a joy to work with and made the purchase very easy. She provided all the details about the purchase and offered a great financing package. A short time later I was signing the paperwork and finalized the deal. I was amazed how wonderful the dealer experience was compared to my prior relationships with other manufacturers dealerships.

I will be picking up the car this week and I’m psyched… naw.. I’m out of my mind with excitement! Take some time to check out www.smartusa.com and see if the Smart Car is right for you. Take a test drive and be amazed.

Lake View Pavilion - Foxboro, MA

Today I had the absolute pleasure of attending Amy and David’s wedding. They had their wedding at my absolute favorite local wedding locations Lake View Pavilion in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The ceremony and reception took place at Lake View. This was a first for me but, worked out pretty well. The day was frigidly cold so, having it outside wasn’t an option. Brrrr… Lake View Pavilion decorates so unfreakin- believably awesome! The winter decor is most impressive. The night was full of dancing and fun. The garter toss was truly memorable. Here’s some of my favorites in a little screen flicka!

The Patriots Head to the Super Bowl! - Foxboro, MA

You have to hand it to the Patriots for their perfect season performance. The perfect season is outstanding! We now look ahead to the Super Bowl in the weeks to come.

Also, a little know option for brides and grooms is the Foxboro Stadium. Yes, they host wedding receptions. I shot a wedding there last year and it can hold a very large wedding party. For the Patriots sports fan in the world this may be the only place to have your wedding reception. Here’s a link to the event planning site.

Natick Collection - Nouvelle - Natick, MA

I woke up this morning, got dressed, grabbed my cam, and headed to DD for some coffee. I started waking up and decided to head over to the Natick Collection/Nouvelle. I guess it’s two places. It used to be the Natick Mall and then they decided to expand the mall. They also added living space above the new retail section. Condo’s start in the 400k range. The architecture is pretty sweet. I remember when the big N that they have outside and wished I had a bride to shoot on them. Maybe someday.. at night.. and quickly. I took a quick roll through the mall. I had my 20d and my wide angle. I made a quick round of the mall shooting a few images. The light was sweet and I managed to capture some fun stuff. Here’s what caught my eye.
