Canon 5D, 12.8mp

I took delivery of the new Canon 5D! I’m so psyched and I can’t wait to start shooting with it. I have a wedding over the weekend and it will get used throughout the day. The camera, from all accounts, is a remarkable step forward for Canon. It’s supposed to have less noise at higher ISO settings (for our dark New England churches), higher resolution, better Auto Focusing, and a Full Frame Sensor. For those who don’t understand the full frame concept, take a look at the graphic below.

The inner box represents what I have currently. A 20D with a 1.6x crop. The new 5D has a Full Frame 1.x. Why is this good? It’s better for wide angle shots and the increased resolution from 8.2mp to 12.8mp. Stay tuned for more info….

Umm….Wow!

So, what’s the first thing I did after I got out of work tonight? Ummm, yeah…go shoot for awhile with the 5D. What a difference compared to the 20D. As reported, the viewfinder is very large and bright. The shutter is much quiter than the 20D and it doesn’t feel as if shakes the camera when it’s actuated. The high iso performance is outstanding. There’s hardly any noticeable noise in a normally exposed 3200 iso pictures. Hand holding at 1/6th feels easier than the 20D. Color looks great and I love the field of view. This really raises the bar for digital photography from Canon. I can’t wait for this Saturday… See ya soon Tania and Robert!
